Opus XVI Timber
Opus XVI Timber by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with cypress, cardamom, juniper berry, pink pepper and cocoa, moves into lavender, pine and frankincense and dries down to palo santo, bourbon vanilla, sandalwood, cedarwood and patchouli. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Cypress Cool, green, resinous conifer. Sharp and clean.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Cocoa Dry, dusty chocolate. Bitter rather than sweet.
Heart
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Pine Sappy and bracing. Straightforwardly outdoorsy.
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Dry-down
- Palo Santo Sweet, resinous holy wood. Smoky with a citrus lift.
- Bourbon Vanilla Richer, boozier vanilla. Darker than the standard version.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
